The search for a missing Yoakum man ended on Sunday after the discovery of his body in a wooded pasture.
Ricardo "Ricky" Grifaldo, 24, was reported missing to the Yoakum Police Department on Dec. 25.
He was last seen in the early morning hours of Dec. 24 on County Road 392, near the Yoakum Community Hospital.
Grifaldo's body was found at about 3 p.m. in a densely wooded area only 700 yards from where his truck was discovered, said Lavaca County Sheriff Micah Harmon.
Volunteer searchers, comprised of Grifaldo's friends and family members, found Grifaldo hanging from a tree.
"It's sad the family had to search themselves because the family felt like something more needed to be done," said a female family member, who asked not to be identified.
Harmon said law enforcement previously searched the area; however, the dense underbrush made it difficult to cover every inch of the wooded area, which was also not visible to air search teams.
Although all the details surrounding Grifaldo's death still remain unknown, Harmon said the condition of the body looked to coincide with the time he had been missing.
Grifaldo's family said they still think Grifaldo was the victim of foul play.
"He was a very happy person," said the female family member. "We don't think he would have done anything to hurt himself."
At this time, Harmon said no arrests have been made and the case is still under investigation.
