WHEN: 6 p.m. Thursday
WHERE: 102 Profit Drive, Victoria
The school board will likely approve new electronic media standards in a policy update Thursday.
"What this is doing is giving fair notice to educators that you have a higher standard that you're going to be held to especially when it comes to interactions with students," said Dianne Boyett, district communications specialist. "It is something that school districts' employees everywhere are going to be dealing with more and more."
The policy, which was adopted at the state-level last month, allows certified or licensed employees to use electronic media to communicate with students about issues "within the scope of the employee's professional responsibilities."
The policy also says employees will be held to the same standards in their public use of media - like blogs, Facebook profiles or YouTube - as they are for any public conduct.
The board will also hear the district's annual state report that details student test performance, school finances and staffing information.
The report shows eight campuses rated exemplary which is twice the amount the year before and the district was rated recognized for the first time.
The board will also vote on approving a water conservation project with the Victoria County Groundwater conservation District.
