Sales from the 2011 Yoakum Project Show Auction bounced back from last year's below-average sales.

This year's sales totaled $211,296.65 - up more than $25,000 from 2010, said Jay Mixom, ag teacher at Yoakum High School.

"Last year was kind of a depressed sale because of the economy, but we got a big part of that back," he said just after calculations were in. "We're tickled to death."

Mixom also said this year's sales were impressive, considering the lot of 70 animals was fewer than in years past.

"So the average per kid is probably the highest we've ever had."

Mixom credits a better economy and more oil activity in the community with the higher sales.

"And there were a lot of new buyers who we weren't really expecting, and that had a lot to do with it."
