Strong cold front on the way
A strong cold front is rapidly approaching south Texas and was located along a line from Eagle Pass to Pleasanton to Hallettsville, according to the National Weather Service.
The front will push through the area by early afternoon bringing an abrupt drop in temperatures and strong north winds. Temperatures are expected to drop 10 to 15 degrees, dipping into the 40s by late afternoon over much of the region.
North winds will increase to 20 to 30 mph with gusts to near 40 mph.
A wind advisory is in effect through midnight for coastal areas. No significant precipitation is expected with the front.
A light freeze is expected over northern portions of South Texas tonight generally along and north of a line from Encinal to Skidmore to Victoria.
On Friday highs will reach the 50s. A gradual warming trend can be expected through the weekend with a chance of showers Sunday.
