IF YOU GOWHAT: Candlelight March for Life

WHEN: 7 p.m. Thursday

WHERE: Our Lady of Victory Cathedral, 3306 N. Laurent St. to Fellowship Bible Church at 3401 N. Ben Jordan St.

SPEAKER: Eve Sanchez Silver, New Jersey cancer research analyst

A police escort will follow an illuminated pro-life rally through the streets of Victoria on Thursday night for the annual Candlelight March for Life. Those participating in the rally will gather at Our Lady of Victory Cathedral on Laurent Street at 7 p.m. and march silently and prayerfully for about one mile with lit candles, concluding the march at Fellowship Bible Church on Ben Jordan Street.

One of the March's volunteers and longtime participants, Paul Tasin, said the main theme of the march is to illustrate the importance of human life.

"We're standing up for life and trying to get everyone to realize the beauty of life," Tasin said.

Tasin, whose participated in the march for nearly three decades, said as the event grows each year, he witnesses people becoming more conscious of abortion alternatives.

"Every year it gets bigger, and as it grows we're seeing more people go pro-life, and that means fewer abortions," Tasin, 74, said.

The event's key note speaker is New Jersey cancer research analyst Eve Sanchez Silver, who will highlight the subject of breast cancer and how it's related to abortions and early deliveries.

Those not participating in the walk can meet at Fellowship Bible Church, and those marching will be shuttled back to their cars via busses, Tasin said.

Candles will be provided at the march.

Local pro-life organization, Life and Family Advocates is sponsoring the event.
