The Victoria Bach Festival Chorus is encouraging local singers to audition for the June 2011 performances of "Missa Latina," a work created by Puerto Rican composer Roberto Sierra.

The piece will be performed with a full orchestra on June 11 at the Victoria School District's Fine Arts Auditorium and on June 12 in Austin as part of the 36th annual Victoria Bach Festival, according to a news release.

"For anyone who loves to sing, I would heartily recommend auditioning for the Victoria Bach Festival Chorus," Janet Born, chorus liaison, said. "When I began singing in the group 11 years ago, I had no idea that it would be such hard work. But it is one of the most rewarding and fulfilling activities in which I have ever participated. It requires commitment and dedication, and is worth every moment of the effort. Our goal is to have more of the many very talented Victoria area singers in our own Bach Festival Chorus."

Auditions will be at 2 p.m. on Feb. 20 in the choir room at First United Methodist Church in Victoria. Singers should be able to read music and have previous choral experience. All voice parts are welcome, but there is a specific need is for tenors and basses, according to the news release.
