The auditorium of the new $11 million Victoria Fine Arts Center seats nearly 1,500 and includes a giant stage, projection screens and an orchestra pit. Many believe the center will bolster the local art scene.

Community art groups and school officials are singing a happy tune about the new Victoria Fine Arts Center, a project that's expected to change the entertainment scene.

The $11 million project is the second-largest auditorium in the area and seats 1,500 people.

The project was built with funds from the district's $159 million bond package passed in 2007.

The center opens to the public for the first time at 7 p.m. Thursday with performances by the University of Texas Wind Ensemble and high school groups.

Tickets, which are $10, are sold at area music stores or through the Victoria Education Foundation. Contact them at 361-788-9271.
