of course the rear end accident is the fault of the tailgater. But since we know cameras exacerbate the accidents from tailgating does it really matter who is at fault? Why is it OK to install a system everyone agrees increases at least some types of accidents regardless of who is at fault? And it isn't just rear end accidents. Several Texas cities have reported to TXDOT increases in red light tbone accidents, injury accidents as well as the typical rear end accidents everyone agrees happens.
Tailgaters are a real problem and so is the VPD for not issuing tickets when a person is rear-ended. I have seen too many people in this town stomp on the gas from more than 10 yards from an intersection when they see the light turn amber.
This article said nothing about tailgaters. The issue is (even if no one else is near by) people will slam on their brakes or try to run the adjusted yellow light to avoid getting a ticket.
