Texas Department of Public Safety troopers seized 39.2 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop on Friday.

At about 3:20 p.m., a DPS trooper stopped a 2004 Ford F-150 truck that was northbound on US Highway 59 near Loop 463.

The trooper pulled over the truck, which was driven by 23-year-old Julio C. Garza, for following too closely and making an unsafe lane change, said DPS Trooper and Public Information Officer Gerald Bryant.

Garza was traveling from his hometown of Rio Grande City to Houston.

Upon stopping the vehicle, the trooper noticed Garza was extremely nervous, said Bryant.

The trooper got verbal consent from Garza to search the truck, during which time the trooper located 16 bundles of marijuana in the backs of the driver's seat and the front passenger seat.

The marijuana has a street value of $11,700, Bryant said.

Garza was taken to the Victoria County jail and charged with felony possession of marijuana.
