The new gospel play, "Repent and Let's Have Church 2: Aunt Ida Strikes Back," is coming to Victoria.

The play, which is being brought to Victoria by St. Peter's Missionary Baptist Church, will take place on Feb. 12.

"It's an opportunity for young people to be exposed to drama and theatrics and help support Black History Month," said St. Peter's pastor, the Rev. Kevin VanHook.

The play will also serve as a fundraiser to help St. Peter's raise money toward rebuilding their church, which was destroyed by a fire in February 2009.

An estimated $1 million is needed to fully rebuild the church, said VanHook.

The play, which is a Dallas-based Black Star Entertainment production, follows the story of God-fearing Ms. Marie and her sister-in-law Aunt Ida, who is no stranger to the Bible either.

Throughout the play, Ms. Marie and her family experience a series of injustices, but they are able to overcome them thanks to their steadfast faith in God.

"It sounded like something that would be great for our community," said Wilford Washington, event coordinator for St. Peter's, who has seen performances of the play. "It will make you laugh and cry all in the same night."
