About 100 Victoria residents without power after lines fall

An early afternoon power outage Monday left about 100 Victoria residents without power for more than an hour, American Electric Power community affairs manager Elgin Janssen said.

Two power lines at the intersection of Meadowlane Street and Lova Drive became disconnected at 2:25 p.m. Monday. The broken lines landed in the grass at a house on the 3300 block of Meadowlane.

The Victoria Fire Department responded to a call, but Capt. James Dearman said the grass was only smoldering and there was no danger to the structure.

"When the conductor hit the grass, it caused a small blaze, but it wasn't much of a fire at all," Janssen said.

Power was shut off in the area as technicians worked to repair the downed lines. The line were repaired and power restored at 3:50 p.m. No outside influences caused the lines to become disconnected, Janssen said.
