Information Overload: GateGuru: Your guide to airports

It's that time of the year when many of you are traveling to destinations far and away.
Perhaps you are driving, going by train, bus or on a boat. Vacations are supposed to be enjoyable; however, one method of transportation that seems to put many on edge these days is flying by plane.
Maybe it's the long lines, the delays beyond your control, or those pat-downs you'd rather not talk about, but sometimes there is no other option but travel by flight.
Wouldn't it be nice if you had a way of making your time while at the airport manageable? Instead of relying on that pack of peanuts to keep your stomach content (do they still hand those out?), maybe you could find a decent place to eat or shop near your terminal. Or would you like to find out the wait times at the TSA checkpoints?
Well, in that case, the GateGuru app is just what you need. This app, free for iPhone and Android users lists information for more than 120 airports across the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia.
GateGuru, which can be compared to Yelp, but for airports, is very handy because it contains thousands of reviews from fellow travelers, as well as photos of airport terminals and amenities. Many restaurants and shops listed also provide discount codes.
In addition to providing reviews, GateGuru also has maps of airport terminals which can come in handy as you are sprinting to your gate at George Bush Intercontinental.
I have some flight travel plans in my future (did I mention how much I dislike flying?), so I downloaded GateGuru to check it out.
I noticed that some of the updates at some airports, like the TSA checkpoint wait times, had not been updated for quite some time. But for the most part, there was a good amount of reviews and tips by travelers regarding restaurants, airport shops and other services.
If you travel by plane quite a bit, or just want to find the best place for a pre-flight meal, GateGuru is the app for you.
