Construction is under way for a new Discount Tire Co. at 9013 N. Navarro St. Once complete, the business will mark Victoria's third Discount Tire location.
Business is good at the city's other locations, and it was time to introduce another to the mix, said Mark Thurman, content editor for Discount Tire Co.
"We're just adding the store there to support the business there in Victoria," he said.
The 7,000-square-foot building will include six service bays and offer the same services the current locations do, such as tire repairs, rotations and replacements.
The building is slated for completion in late October or November, but nothing is set in stone, Thurman said. Weather issues could hold up construction.

have you been to the other parts of this town?
Yes, I have. They is a lot of traffic on business 59. I think one would do well over there. Discount tire yes, Starbucks, no. Everyone needs tires, but not a $4 cup of coffee
July 15, 2011 at 2:22 a.m.compare median incomes of north victoria to south victoria
there is your answer
July 14, 2011 at 10:50 p.m.I guess their marketing analysis shows a third location so close to the other two will still be profitable.
I've lived in a lot of cities and states in my years and have never seen three Discount Tire stores in such close proximity. Then again, Victoria is a very peculiar town so who knows ?

have you been to the other parts of this town? It is urban blight with potholes, dirty curbs, streets and very little community pride. In other words this is a dump of a city.
July 14, 2011 at 11:19 a.m.No, they will not get any subsidies, free parking lots or any other economic welfare from the city.
The city might even form a three agency joint strike force to arrest the workers for using "tire service technician" instead of "tire technician" on their unforms.
The size of Victoria, I wonder why they have to be bunched up all in one side of town.
July 14, 2011 at 10:24 a.m.Good show Discount Tires, but why north Navarro? Navarro cannot handle the traffic it currently has, move the store to another side of town where other parts of Victoria's population doesn't have to drive so far.
July 14, 2011 at 8:10 a.m.Congratulations to the Advocate!
You announced a business expanding without a single quote from the Chamber of Commerce or the Victoria Economic Development Council. This reader is amazed at your self restraint.
Discount Tire is a first class operation and they deserve their sucess. They are expanding without tax abatements, without government grants and without taxpayer subsidies.
July 14, 2011 at 6:14 a.m.We need more operations like you. I hope you have a 4th location on the horizon.
Kudos to Discount Tire for serving Victoria so successfully and adding jobs for the area. They are my choice for tire services bar none.
