Texas Department of Public Safety troopers seized 181.6 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop Wednesday.
About 4:58 p.m., DPS troopers stopped a 1994 Chevrolet pickup on suspicion of a traffic violation while traveling north on U.S. Highway 59 near Telferner, said DPS Trooper and Public Information Officer Gerald Bryant.
Upon stopping the vehicle, the trooper observed "numerous indicators of criminal activity," Bryant said.
After obtaining verbal consent to search the pickup, the trooper uncovered 64 bundles of marijuana located in the pickup's structure and fuel tank.
The marijuana, which weighed 181.6 pounds, had a street value of $65,106, said Bryant.
The pickup's driver, Arturo Guadalupe DeLeon, 44, and the pickup's passenger, Amy Lee Lopez, 35, were arrested on a charge of possession of marijuana between 50 and 2,000 pounds, a second degree felony.
DeLeon and Lopez, both of Three Rivers, were taking the drugs from Roma to Houston, Bryant said.
They remained in the Victoria County jail.
