Cuero raid provides new evidence in counterfeiting case

July 15, 2011 at 2:15 a.m.

The Victoria Police Department, in conjunction with the Cuero Police Department, searched an RV park in Cuero on Thursday for evidence connected to counterfeiting arrests on July 9.

Thursday morning, the Cuero police were contacted by the Victoria police asking for assistance in serving a search warrant at the Wildflower Inn RV Park, said Cuero Police Chief Jay Lewis.

When the Victoria officers arrived that evening, officers from both agencies met to discuss the operation.

The Victoria Police Department's tactical unit conducted the search warrant entry and search without incident at the Wildflower Inn RV Park, Lewis said.

The Cuero Police Department provided external support and liaison with the property owner, while the Victoria police investigators conducted the internal search, Lewis said.

"I understand VPD recovered evidence they were seeking, but I don't know for sure if any arrests were made," Lewis said.

Lewis said additional suspects may develop as a result of the search.

Victoria Police Detective James Poe is the lead investigator, but investigators from the Victoria Police Department were not available for comment.

On July 9, three Cuero residents were arrested in Victoria after Victoria Mall merchants reported receiving counterfeit $10 bills.

Additional bills have surfaced over the past week.
