Forklift hits electrical line, knocking out power to areas of Victoria
July 20, 2011 at 2:20 a.m.
A Caterpillar forklift operator struck a high voltage transmission line interrupting service to two of American Electric Power's substations, according to Elgin Janssen, an AEP spokesman.
Service to AEP customers in northern and eastern Victoria was interrupted for several minutes, Janssen said.
"It affected all the way out to the airport and over to Garcitas Creek," Janssen said. "It also affected parts of Victoria Mall."
The incident caused AEP to lose a couple of conductors, which they called a crew in to repair.
"The repairs took about three hours," Janssen said. "We had to switch people around to get all the customers' power in the meantime."
