Matt Prokop moved to Los Angeles his sophomore year of high school to pursue acting.
His career has taken him around the world, but his heart is still in Victoria.
The 20-year-old actor received his big break as "Jimmie Zara" in "High School Musical 3: Senior Year."
His first acting coach, Mari Ferguson, said he was always talented and his craft has come a long way.
"He picked up everything quick. He has wonderful comedic timing," said Ferguson.
Several years ago, Prokop had private classes with the Houston-based coach once a week.
His mother, Debbie Prokop, said he just wrapped the "Geek Charming" film in Vancouver. He plays film geek Josh Rosen. The movie is scheduled to be released in November, but it could be sooner.
Sarah Hyland plays his on-screen love. She's also his leading lady in real life.
Prokop is also scheduled to act in "Struck by Lightning," written by "Glee' star Chris Colfer.
The Victoria-born actor and Hyland will have a six-page spread in an upcoming Seventeen magazine.
His mother said she's proud of Prokop's professional accomplishments, but she is most pleased with his integrity.
"He's out in LA, but he's kept his Texas roots," she said.
