A 22-year-old auto mechanic died Thursday night after losing control of his car and striking a building in the 100 block of Mechanic Street.
Jose O'Canas Jr., of El Campo, lost control of his black Chevrolet Camaro, after leaving a business at a high rate of speed about 11:35 p.m., said El Campo Assistant Police Chief Gary Williamson.
As he left the parking lot, he crossed over railroad tracks, went over a curb, hit a concrete planter and then crashed into a building, Williamson said.
O'Canas and his passenger Kelsey Miller, 21, of El Campo, were transported to El Campo Memorial Hospital. O'Canas died at the hospital and Miller was treated for minor injuries, Williamson said.
