VC Gonzales Center offers pharmacy technician course

Victoria College's Workforce and Continuing Education Department, in partnership with Boston Reed College, is offering a pharmacy technician course at the VC Gonzales Center in the fall. Weekend classes are from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. beginning Saturday, Sept. 24 and continuing each Saturday through Dec. 10.
Those interested in the pharmacy technician course should plan to attend an information night at the VC Gonzales Center on Saturday, Aug. 13.
The need for pharmacy technicians is expected to grow 25 percent by 2018, According to the U.S. Department of Labor.
Pharmacy technicians help pharmacists pack and mix prescriptions, maintain client records, refer clients to the pharmacist for counseling, assist with inventory control and purchasing as well as collect payment and coordinate billing.
Students who successfully complete the course will be prepared to take the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam and enroll in an optional externship with a local pharmacy.
Enrolling students must be at least 18 years old and have completed high school or its equivalent. Basic competency with computers is necessary, along with Internet and email access. A math and English pre-assessment test will be administered.
Total cost of the course is $1,099.
