  • USPS is a dinosaur that bleeds red ink to the tune of Billions of dollars annually. It needs to be taken off life support and allowed to die. Technology and habits have doomed it to oblivion.

Only other option would be for those like Ms. Laake, who want to keep thier rural post office, to all chip in annually and pay to keep the service themselves since they are the end users.

  • To curb costs - make one stamp - evergreen. No need to put a 57 chevy or Elvis on a stamp. I think the cost for the art work and production must be pretty high. I don't need a choice of 10 different Christmas stamps at Christmas time.
I agree - leave the boxes - let the carrier deliver to the boxes, but no need to have someone man the post office. You can order stamps by mail.
I haven't tried it here, but in West Texas I use to leave the money and note in the mail box - my rural carrier would leave the stamps. Pretty efficient!

  • We don't need all of the little post offices around the area. Too much expense to put up with for the little income they produce. Close them down and consolidate. Leave the boxes for mail to be picked up for distrubution but close the store. You can buy your postal supplies at Target of Wal Mart. I say get rid of the little post offices and stream line the program as much as you can. Make the USPS sign an agreement that It will not give away any contrubutions to any entity. Instead they could lower the price of a stamp.

  • Our post office has some wierd hours and could not make money if they tried. First of all mail is not guaranteed to be put up until 9am. And the window doesn't open until long after most people are at work They are closed for an hour and a half during the lunch hour and they shut down at 4:30. You couldn't buy a stamp because they have no machine and most people are working during thier opening hours. Oh it does make for a nice dry place for the kids to stand out of the weather while waiting for the bus. And to top everything the post lady is beyond rude!

Open the post office window by 7am,close down around 11am and open back up around 3:30 and stay open till 6pm. Put a person with a pleasant personality at the window and you'd make way more money.
