The making of a boom town?

Expansion by the University of Houston-Victoria, the Port of Victoria, and the recent arrival of Caterpillar has ignited a small economic boom in Victoria. The city's growth is the most significant change in the last 50 years.

Everywhere you look, Victoria displays early signs of a boom town.

Consider expansion and improvement of these sectors: Main Street, the University of Houston-Victoria, the Port of Victoria, Caterpillar and other developments.

Not in five decades, since a host of chemical plants located here, has the city enjoyed the promise of such growth.

So, how did we get to where we are and what were the lessons learned? What does the future hold?

The Advocate examined highlights of the past 30 years, both good and bad, that shaped the city as it is today - and signs that might indicate what Victoria will look like tomorrow.
