Thumbs-up to all the military men and women of the United States of America this past Memorial Day and always.
A big salute to my son, Chris J. Trevino, U.S. Army Medical Division (ret.) and my brother Fernando G. Veliz, U.S. Army Infantry Division (ret.). They served our country well.
Thumbs-down to all the accidental deaths and injuries in our area these past few weeks. We all need to be more careful - in our homes and on the highways.

Thumbs-up to the three friends - Dolores Downs, Shirley Smiga and Jeanette Turek - who have known each other for 52 years and have a monthly breakfast.
Thumbs-up on our two new high schools and their inaugural year.
Thumbs-down to no rain. The lack of H2O has caused implementation of voluntary water restrictions in the city's contingency plan to conserve water.
