When Siesta Restaurant and Catering was approached by Homewood Residence to be the host of the Walk to End Alzheimer's kickoff party, Richard Trevino did not hesitate.

Trevino's mother, Bea Trevino, is an Alzheimer's patient who still owns the restaurant, so the search for a cure is of great importance to him.

"It's really a devastating disease," he said. "It affects the whole family. Hopefully we'll come up with a cure."

The Walk to End Alzheimer's is in September and as part of the kickoff, Siesta will donate 15 percent of its earnings from 3 to 5 p.m. to the Alzheimer's Association.

Booths also will be available for those interested in learning more about the walk.

In the past, during the month of August, the restaurant also donates a certain percentage, Trevino said.

Maria M. Moreno works with Homewood Residence and said the restaurant is a staple support of the Victoria community.

"Siesta has done so many things for the community of Victoria throughout the years," she said.
