Fallen branch causes temporary power outage

By ADVOCATE STAFF REPORT
June 13, 2011 at 1:13 a.m.

A fallen tree branch left 1,711 commercial and residential electricity customers temporarily without power, AEP spokesman Elgin Janssen said.

The outage began at 1:57 p.m. Monday when a pecan tree at the intersection of Odem and Laurent streets lost one of its branches, Janssen said.

Several customers reported seeing an arc and flash when the branch hit the wires, he said.

The feeder affected by the outage runs from a substation at the intersection of Houston Highway and Ben Jordan Street, Janssen explained. It feeds along both sides of Laurent Street, going toward Bloomington Highway.

Crews re-energized the breaker and restored power to all customers at 2:35 p.m.
