A 17-year-old Victoria man was arrested after an attempted burglary at 7:27 a.m. Sunday, said eye-witness Sabrina Silva, 42, of Victoria.
Silva, driving home after fishing with her husband, said they spotted a shirtless man in shorts use his elbow to break a window of the Airline Express on North Ben Jordan Street and East Airline Road.
When the man noticed Silva and her husband watching him, he yelled obscenities at them. Silva said the man then moved to the front of the building and started throwing beer bottles at the windows.
Silva heard the alarm go off in the store as she phoned the police.
Silva said the police were on the scene quickly.
The police had already received a call about a man going up to vehicles stopped at the intersection of East Airline Road and North Ben Jordan Street, acting like he wanted to fight with the drivers, according to a police report.
Silva saw the man run down the middle lane of East Airline Road as officers arrived.
Police cars boxed him in on three sides and officers got out to detain him.
According to the police report, the man did not heed verbal commands. Instead, he struggled and tried to pull away from the officers; kicking, cursing and spitting at them.
Leg restraints and a spit mask were used to hamper his attempts to escape, according to the police report.
The man was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication, and suspicion of criminal mischief.
