Man suffers gunshot wound to head

Sgt. Phillips Barron talks about a shooting on Loma Vista Avenue.

A 52-year-old Victoria man was transported to the hospital when his sister found him in his bedroom bleeding from the head in the 2200 block of Loma Vista Avenue at 10:36 a.m Wednesday.

Doctors later determined the cause of the bleeding was a single gunshot wound to the head.

Victoria Police Sgt. Phillip Barron said neither the victim's 54-year-old sister nor his mother, 80, heard the shot.

He was transported from his home to Citizens Medical Center, then transferred by emergency helicopter to University Hospital in San Antonio to see a neurosurgeon.

The hospital informed the victim's sister that he was still in critical condition when she called about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Barron said the police are investigating how the shot was inflicted.
