The Victoria Advocate on Thursday received the Frank M. Adams media award for coverage and support of mental health issues.
Editor Chris Cobler accepted the state award on behalf of the newspaper during the annual convention of the Texas Council of Community Centers at the Westin Galleria in Houston. In nominating the newspaper for the honor, the Gulf Bend Center board cited the Advocate's extensive coverage of the center's 40th anniversary and its longtime support of the community.
In accepting the award, Cobler credited the McHaney-Roberts family members for their three generations of Advocate ownership and their commitment to the community.
"What we do and our success rest on how well we work with the community and connect the community," he said.
