I think there are more critical comments about VISD than people that voted in the school board electioon. The persons interviewed are defensive, searching for excuses for the lower scores. Even the Advocate editorial was providing cover for the lower TAKS scores. It sounds like the "Good Ole Boy" system is alive and working in Victoria. Kasie & Holein1, a house cleaning is needed is in administration. When the 3rd grade and 6th are being taught the same level there is a major problem in administration. People in administration are responsible for the falling grades, they have lost their credibility.
I believe the whole school system needs a big tune up. I have been to most of the schools in VISD and there is a big difference in what you learn where you go and what projects you do in each school. My nephew who is going to highschool never learned curseve handwriting until he was in 6th grade,(Sounds a little late to me)and when my daughter at another school was taught in 3rd grade. They need to get there act together and worry about students and teachers instead of there on popularity and wallets.

If you want to clean house at VISD, start with the Communication Director position, and let the Superintendent speak for himself.
Hmmm...moved to CScope canned curriculum, TAKS scores declined. No surprise there. Let the teachers do what they know how to do!
justanotherDesertVet, if by "Green landscaping in the middle of a drought" you mean the rain harvesting at Stroman, I have it on a hunch that it was a free service involvement by a contractor and others that helped. Just letting you know that not everything is smoke and mirrors around here.

Accountability is just another buzz word that is thrown around. It doesn't mean a thing to anyone anymore. Just how does the school district hold teachers, administrations, etc. accountable for the poor performance of our schools?
I think it's sad when the curriculum is not about preparing students for college or skills to use in the real world, but about passing a test. When I was in school we did have to take basic skills tests, but we didn't spend the year studying for it. Seems to me that it's simple concept. Teach a student the courses, in the process they will aquire the basic skills needed to pass the basic skills test at the end of the year.
Come on in China and the rest of the world...we're dumbing down our children. Our society only really cares about which celeb is hooking up with which celeb, how much my ______ costs and how can I get a bunch for nothing.
Seriously considering moving to another country. The US is the greatest country in history, but we are trying really hard to F it up!
when is VISD going to stop "playing" with education, DISMISS the inept Senior Leadership, start PAYING TEACHERS, and stop WASTING $$$ on crap like a "Natatorium" or Green, Green landscaping in the middle of a drought (or anything else the Superintendant's Office can dream up to give Krueger and others big money)....finally, we see chickens coming home to roost....while Adminstration and long time local civic "leaders" continued passing ISD funds and favors around to each other, it was and is the Teachers and students that have been disregarded.....
Quit letting these people make excuses! As much as VISD would like to think ("there is a widely held belief across the State that this years TAKS was designed to be more difficult") the TAKS test did NOT get harder this year and this is NOT the belief across the State. Questions for the TAKS tests are developed years in advance and placed in the bank of questions to be used. What happened this year is that the state took away the highly controverstial TPM (Texas Projection Measure) which is a convoluted formula that no one understood that artificially inflated TAKS scores and Accountability Ratings.
The scores you are seeing this year are a true pass/fail rate. No slight of hand with "fuzzy math".
How can VISD say that the test was more difficult and now they had to include Modified tests so that is why their scores are lower? Doesn't the article say scores were up STATEWIDE under the same conditions for every other district? Districts have known for years that the Modified tests would be included in Accountiblity Ratings. You cannot act like this snuck up on you.
This is nothing but a magic act - all smoke and mirrors!!
