If you're not convinced that Victoria is on the path to prosperity, please review the clues that the city is indeed postured for good economic times.

First, the new technology for drilling in the Eagle Ford shale is proving beneficial to oil and gas drilling companies and consequently the region. Deeper drilling with water and sand to extract oil and gas makes our region valuable to the state and our country.

Also, a good indicator that Victoria is poised to escalate economically was Caterpillar Inc.

The global leader in manufacturing machines that excavate, dig and mine is constructing a manufacturing plant in Victoria, initially promising more than 500 jobs and an investment of at least $120 million, including a 600,000-square-foot building.

Of course, also promising is the University of Houston-Victoria's growth and designation as a destination university.

The university certainly will add to the economic well-being of the community.

The latest clue to Victoria's bright future goes back to Caterpillar once again. The company decided in its developing plans to add more. It announced June 17 that it was adding an additional 100 jobs and a 200,000- square-foot building - a $70 million investment in its Victoria plant.

More is on the horizon. Numerous businesses will consider a move to Victoria because of oil and gas exploration and Caterpillar.

But also, we have a city council that is working with the VEDC and companies to move here.

We can all thank our stars for these developments.

Even more, we can thank the Victoria Economic Development Corp. for its hard work and determination to get manufacturing companies to come to Victoria.

And we can thank our governmental entities and community for working with the VEDC to make sure these new neighbors are happy in comfortable in Victoria.

Truly, the next decade will be an economic boom in Victoria.
