Food service inspections

The Victoria City-County Health Department Environmental Health Division inspects places where food is served in Victoria, DeWitt, Jackson and Calhoun Counties.

In the inspection reports, each violation in the Food Temperature/Time Requirements category is 5 demerits; in the Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements category, 4 demerits; and in the Facility and Equipment Requirements, 3 demerits. Zero is a perfect score while 100 demerits is the worst possible score.

Each Wednesday, the Advocate publishes inspection results from the previous week. All demerits are reported, but only those in the categories of Food Temperature/Time Requirements and Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements are detailed.

FOOD SERVICE INSPECTIONS FOR THE WEEK ENDING JUNE 17

Taco Express, 3101 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 27. Need to wash hands before glove use, do not dump ice in hand sink, need to keep food timed on counter, need to fix broken cold water faucet at hand sink, need to correct cold hold temperature. Two facility and equipment violations.

Angelica's Mexican Restaurant III, 444 W. Main St., Yorktown. Demerits: 27. Need to properly cool beans, need to wash hands before preparing food, need to cover all items in cooler, no bare-hand contact with ready-to-eat foods, need to keep time on eggs left out and date label all items in cooler. Two facility and equipment violations.

Gone Bananas, 2202 N. Laurent St., Yoakum. Demerits: 21. Need to cover ice cream in freezer, need to date label chicken salad, need to have air gap or back flow device with hose in mop sink. Three facility and equipment violations.

La Antigua, 737 N. Highway 35, Port Lavaca. Demerits: 20. Need to properly wash hands and need to wash hands at hand sink only and dry with paper towels. Four facility and equipment violations.

Texana Raceway Park, 258 County Road 412, Edna. Demerits: 15. Need to wash hands before glove use, need to use gloves with ready-to-eat foods, water sample is past due. One facility and equipment violation.

Rita Jo's Bayview, 1404 Broadway St., Port Lavaca. Demerits: 12. Four facility and equipment violations.

Taco Bell No. 2708, 3101 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 12. Need to wash hands before glove use, no bare-hand contact with ready-to-eat foods, need to have air gap or backflow device with hose in mop sink.

Dollar General No. 7688, 110 W. Main St., Yorktown. Demerits: 6. Two facility and equipment violations.

Edgar & Glady's Cafe, 300 Font St. Highway 72, Port Lavaca. Demerits: 4. Need to use gloves or tongs with ready-to-eat foods.

Aunt Jo's BBQ, 5303 U.S. Highway 77 S., Victoria; Club Movia, 2107 Lone Tree Road, Victoria; Dairy Queen, 510 W. Main St., Yorktown. Demerits: 3.

Broadway Grocery, 205 Broadway, Nordheim; Paletera La Salud, 602 W. Main St., Port Lavaca; Captain John's Treasures, 106 Berwick Road, Victoria. Demerits: 0.

Re-Inspection

Denny's Restaurant, 7601 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Inspected on June 14 with 11 demerits. Re-inspected on June 22, all violations corrected.

Los Reyes Mexican Grill, 6908 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Inspected on June 14 with 50 demerits. Re-inspected on June 22, all violations corrected.

M&M Pinto Bean No. 2, 202 E. Rio Grande St., Victoria. Inspected on June 14 with 21 demerits. Re-inspected on June 15, continuing to work on violations.

Tokyo Grill & Sushi Bar, 5006 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Inspected on June 1 with 41 demerits. Re-inspected on June 22, all violations corrected.
