  • SpeakUp...I hadn't seen your comments til now. A friend said, "Wayward, there's a guy talkin' 'bout you on the Advocate website." I had to look.

You said, "The ticket only is only a citation for the traffic violation that may have led to the accident. NOT the accident itself!" I have seen it said -- and I don't know for certain the exact truth -- that cops don't write tickets at accidents because they weren't there and therefore didn't see the violation that caused the accident.

You said, "Waywards whole argument about cops being revenuers are proven false by the very nature of this argument." No, the cop didn't write a ticket because he didn't see the violation. Had he seen it, I'm sure a ticket would have ensued.

You said, "If Cops really do go out and make up any excuse to write tickets just to generate money, then why would they pass up golden oportunities to write tickets in the case of at-fault wrecks? The fact that they dont, proves wayward false." No, I NEVER said that cops "make up any excuse" to issue tickets. I HAVE said that cops seldom use common sense and their discretion to warn a citizen instead of writting a ticket.

I do appreciate your comment that "hater" is too strong a description for me. You are quite right, I don't hate cops. I strongly dislike some of the things they do in the area of traffic enforcement, but the police are certainly necessary to a civilized society.

Now, I'm gonna give you another chance for a shot at me. You said, "I even watched zorro attack police officers for busting a child pedophile snapping photos of little children in swimsuits at a public pool. zorro took the pedo's side claiming the police were violationg his rights to take photos in public. (note: these photos were not just pics of kids, but zoom closeups of 4-5 year old's crotches.)" I remember the case. Actually, I think it was an adult pedophile taking the pictures, but that's beside the point. I agree with Zorro that the police were wrong in this case. No one, regardless of age, has a reasonable expectation of privacy at a public swimming pool. The photos were not pornographic -- the kids were wearing swim suits; they weren't naked. The kids weren't doing anything pornographic, so the pictures cannot be porn either. Now, was the guy a creep? No question about it. He was. Was he doing anything illegal? Not unless he was selling the photos without obtaining a release from the kid's parents. If he was doing that, he could be sued or perhaps prosecuted, but that's a far cry from proving pedophilia. Saying the cops were wrong in this case does not indicate hatred of police. It's simply a statement that they were wrong.

  • @speakup1968...It appears that you don't want to know or wont accept the truth. The truth in your opinion?
I have the highest respect for the law and officers who are doing their jobs. That being said...
I do not want a ticket to lay blame, because it is "presumed"...by who? you?... the accident itself and the resulting fees, damages etc... will be punishment enough.
In my eyes, a ticket holds a person accountable for their actions, if they are in the wrong. Try convincing your insurance the other person was at fault when no ticket was issued.
You say you followed my threads...then you MUST have read the praise I gave the law officers and emergency MS, when I was hit by the drunk driver who ran the stop sign, had no insurance and was driving with a suspended license and continues to do so. Yes I'm the same biker...who was also ran over, second time, by the hit and run driver who ran the stop Sign.
That's why I'm adamant when drivers aren't held accountable whether it is you or I.

  • This is the second, or third if you count el69runner's mom, this week that I have heard someone say they had the the "green" light (not protected arrow) and made a left turn in front of oncoming traffic. My mom was the innocent victim in a wreck on Monday when a lady who didn't know the law made a left turn right in front of her. There was no time for her to stop. My mom's van is probably totaled and the other lady said she had insurance but didn't. She'll get a ticket and probably a hefty fine from the state. Maybe the advocate should run a "traffic law story" about protected left's.

  • @jfcortez83, Please do not assume...
My mom was going straight...the other driver was coming from her right and ran the red light.
This happen before the lapse in time in changing from red to green light.
    "traffic".
The officer told my mom if she had waited, the person would have gotten a ticket for running a red light but because she did not, she was given a ticket for contributing to the accident. "Not ensuring it was safe to proceed".
I have heard from people who were involved in accidents, that giving a citation is at the discretion of the officer.

  • I have heard if it is a 'he said, she said' occurence and no officer saw the accident, that no ticket will be issued.

  • It is not Victoria. The police do not issue citations across the state. There are certain guidelines they follow to determine when a citation is issued. I was in the same situation after being hit in Bastrop and it upset me, but that is just the way it is, jacked up or not. Point is, it is not just Victoria.

  • The guy driving the truck had a seizure and went through the businesses front yard and hit the boat. The trucks front tire broke off the axle and he hit the boat on the trailer. Then he hit the cement light post. Everyone was OK and he felt really bad.

  • People in Victoria need to demand that the police department do their job and issue citations on such obvious violations as the one cited in this article. Maybe "el69runner" is correct that the cops don't want to do the paperwork, if that is the case, they need a different JOB.

  • I have not seen anything posted on the 3 vehicle wreck Tuesday afternoon about 4pm on Navarro in front of Bernie's Boats. There was a pickup truck up on the grass in front of Bernie's that hit one of the displayed bay boats and knocked it completely off the trailer and the boat landed in Victory Honda's driveway.

  • el69runner, you must always yield on a solid green light when turning left, oncoming traffice has the right of way. The only time you don't yield is when you have green arrow.

  • I fail to understand the Law, a person turns in front of a motorcycle and no citation is given. A driver turns in front of an oncoming vehicle and no citation is given. Are the cops here too busy to give citations because they do not have time to do the paper work?
My mom was given a ticket although she had a green light. The reason she was told was "a green light does not automatically gives you the right of way, it is your responsibility to ensure it is safe to proceed"
