It's time for Victoria Whataburger employees to bust out their orange shirts, brush up on that customer service and contemplate that company history in preparation for their next big event: the 2011 WhataGames.
On Friday, company representatives surprised the Whataburger staff at the 3603 Houston Highway restaurant with news that they were finalists for the 2011 WhataGames competition.
The competition is an event that takes place every two years to test crews' abilities in operations, corporate history, customer service and more, according to a Whataburger news release.
Victoria's staff is one of 16 teams chosen to compete and beat out almost 700 other locations, said Esmer Cavazos, Whataburger's director of operations for Victoria's zone. Beginning in July, the restaurant underwent mystery shopper evaluations, quizzes, unannounced inspections and more, Cavazos said.
"I'm very proud to say this unit was first place in the whole system and now they advance to ... the finals," she said.
Ten Victoria staffers will attend the Grapevine competition and each competitor has a chance to bring back $5,000, according to the Whataburger news release.
Awards, including $500 cash prizes, are also possible for the restaurant's staff members not chosen to compete.
Cavazos said she wanted to give the Victoria team the credit they had due.
"By them being properly trained and properly prepared, they really just outdid themselves," she said. "And I'm very proud of them."
