"I'm not for that. I think it should stay part of the University of Houston system. I think the school that the students signed up for is the school that they should be going to." - Gary Hall, Victoria College professor, Victoria.
"Why are they doing it? I think it's stupid. I know I'd heard that they were pushing to do this, but why? Is it the quality of the education? I really don't understand." - Sherry Podolak, retired, Victoria.
"I think we're still going to be a stepchild of Texas A&M system like we are of the University of Houston system. Texas A&M probably has more money." - Wendall Wilson, retired, Victoria.
"I think Geanie Morrison should stay out of it and let the faculty decide what to do." - Wilbur Collins, retired, Victoria.
"I would rather have it be a Texas A&M school because I'd like to have more professors teaching on campus instead of all of these online classes, and I think Texas A&M could do that." - Matthew Brennan, student, Victoria.
"To me, it doesn't really make a difference, so I'm pretty indifferent to it." - Ethan Johnson, student, Victoria.
"I think that Texas A&M is a well recognized school, and it could do really good things to be affiliated with them, but it's been University of Houston for so long now that I think the change won't be well taken." - Jeremy Iarossi, student, Victoria.
"Whether it's one or the other doesn't really bother me because I'm not really oriented to school names. As long as you get a good education, it doesn't matter what label is on the school." - Jacqueline Granados, student, Victoria.

I am a current student at VC and looked at transferring over to UHV, but I won't because of the limited degrees offered at the college. I would've liked to stay in town, but I will probably go to UTSA or UH because of the lack of choices in degree fields. Any system or persons that helps grow the university and increases the selection of courses would be a welcome addition. . .
March 9, 2011 at 10:52 a.m.What does it matter who the college belongs to as long as it is good for the city and the students get a good education. TAMU is a great college and so is UHV. We have had UHV for decades so it is time for a change. I think TAMU or UT would be a great choice for the new owners of the college just as long as the quality of the education does not faulter.
March 9, 2011 at 6:05 a.m.My only question is how does tamu justify spending the money in Victoria, when their obvious efforts concerning the recruitment and growth in our region is clearly in San Antonio? Confused?

March 8, 2011 at 11:36 p.m.isn't the point of "destination universities" kind of to spur economic development? Yes education happens and is the key of the university itself, but it does spur economic development. Not a bad thing.
March 8, 2011 at 9:01 p.m.Keep your fingers crossed I do not see it happening. Local support is what counts and I have not seen to many in favor of such a move.
March 8, 2011 at 7:37 p.m.I find it funny how uninformed people are on why the change is being proposed. Apparently all those that comment do not remember the multitude of articles from a few months ago. This is happening because of the resistance the UH system has put up in UHV expansion (i.e. turning down free land near the airport to build an independent campus). I personally see great things coming with TAMU change. Larger system that is in expansion mode. Great history of success in expansion. Crossing my fingers.
March 8, 2011 at 7:24 p.m.Making the college a part of TAM will make it similar to a third world country. Out of touch out of mind they won't give a rats butt about their step children in the south. The only thing they are worried about is revenue. If they do take over expect the price of education to go up in the x-roads.
March 8, 2011 at 6:46 p.m.Anyone else find the advertisting banner rolling to the right of this story interesting?
"UHV is No. 1 in student satisfaction in Texas"
So who is this change about, students and education?
