Kinda sad! There are a lot of good athletes in the crossroads area!!

All they need is a little attention, and I believe they could do some really great things. Most of these kids do well academically also. -
"I am for whatever system promotes the athletic program," UHV baseball coach Terry Puhl said. "Without our own athletic fields, we're just spinning our tires. That's not fair to the athletes."
I too think UHV needs their own athletic fields, but I also think this is an absolute pipe dream if they plan on having anything in the next 5 years or so. Walyuchow eludes to the fact that there probably wont be any money for that, at least not for a few years. Anyone else notice how Walyuchow trys to clean up Puhl's comments? I bet Puhl is just pulling (no pun intended) his hair out. Most people do not realize that there are NO UHV athletic facilities, with the exception of the lone soccer field, there's not even a lockeroom. No weight rooms, no lockerrooms, no practice facilities, nothing. UHV is solely dependent on the city, St. Joseph, and mostly the Victoria College to provide lockerooms, workout facilities, etc.
I have long wondered how any coach at UHV can recruit? My hat's off to the coaches and that nearly impossible task. Could you imagine how embarrassing it must be when they bring potential athletes on campus to show them 2 buildings? How about when they have to sign them up for "online" classes? Whenever they have potential recruits they have to walk them over to VC and tour the VC campus. They don't even have a gymnasium.
I think the cost to switch systems is well understated. UHV will have to purchase uniforms, bags, equipment, facilities, marketing items, hats, shirts, etc., etc. The cost is going to be overwhelming!
"We're already looking at budget cuts," he said. "I'm not sure where money would magically appear from."
From what I am told, the UHV athletic department gets no help from the UH system and already operates on a shoestring budget and a prayer. They have to get most of what they get by working out agreements and backdoor deals. Now with VC's new athletic programs surging in popularity UHV has really taken a backseat to them and needs facilities now more than ever. It's going to be interesting.
