• Why do we need 300 acres? Remember we have to buy 200 acres after the 100 are "donated". We do not have the student population at this time. Remember thiss all about expansion and a few guys getting richer. I wonder how much paco has donated to morrison.

  • Allow me to interrupt the constant spray of drone speak (conspiracy! suspect motives! drug dealers! hijacked democracy!) for a second to point out that a destination university does not need to keep every graduate in town to be successful. Do you really think New Haven keeps everyone who graduates from Yale? Does everyone at UT stay in Austin forever? The destination isn't the town, it is the university -- its assets -- whether they be the infrastructure, labs, teachers, connections, etc. and how they can further a person. And if grads do stick around, to teach, or to work, so much the better.

That said, you all can now go back to your bitter, negative, poisonous hive mind collective before Roger Ailes finds out that you are missing.

  • I believe that if a "switch" is made, you will also see A&M wanting to pull out in a few years and not 37 - a college/university cannot undo all the econnomic problems in any community - that is not their business. They educate the community and then it's up to the community to be attractive (job-wise) enough to keep the students once they graduate. You need thriving businesses - what does Victoria have to offer? Think about that. That is a HUGE problem here. Yes, I agree. The" powers that be" have their heads under a huge rock. Climb out from under.

  • UHV or A&M -- don't care. Have no love for UHV because have dealt with their screw ups for 2 years. But I figure all of the schools are the same. I have a problem that there is no evidence that spending money and changing names will change anything. A&M has not studied the area and reported they will do anymore than UHV. With so many A&M sub-schools nearby I can't see why they would put much more into us. $100,00 for ed. and lobbyist, then how quickly will the mayor move to extend Airline (last time he had it in the works before UHV said ya or na to the land), will he start it on what he thinks A&M might do. Who will pay for everything that has to have a name changed on it? Is A&M really after the buildings in Sugarland--wanting to get their foot in that door?

  • Aww UH and UHV thought that Victoria was still part of the democracy of America. Silly school, you have to do what the powers that be want or your out. Anyone who lives here longer than a year knows that.

"The system announced its focus is the University of Houston becoming a Tier 1 school and the most successful metropolitan campus in the country."

Right, everyone wants to send their children to a city whose dorms are covered with drug dealers and prostitutes, and don't forget there is nothing for the bored college student to do, so they can go to one of the many liqure stores and get drunk everynight. Not to mention the crime on that side of town, but ok powers that be keep your head up in the clouds. Until you fix Victoria you can't make it the snooty mecca in which you want it to be.
