Food service inspections

The Victoria City-County Health Department and its sister organization, the Crossroads Public Health District, inspect places where food is served in Victoria, DeWitt, Jackson and Calhoun counties.

In the inspection reports, each violation in the Food Temperature/Time Requirements category is 5 demerits; in the Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements category, 4 demerits; and in the Facility and Equipment Requirements, 3 demerits. Zero is a perfect score while 100 demerits is the worst possible score.

Each Wednesday, the Advocate publishes inspection results from the previous week. All demerits are reported, but only those in the categories of Food Temperature/Time Requirements and Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements are detailed.

FOOD SERVICE INSPECTIONS FOR THE WEEK ENDING MARCH 18

Texas Outpost, 308 state Highway 72, Yorktown. Demerits: 40. Inadequate hand washing, need to use lids and straws on employees drinks, need to label ice bags, need to cover food in cooler, improper handling of ready-to-eat foods, cross contamination of raw and cooked foods, need to use approved date labeling system. Four facility or equipment violations.

Get and Go Food Mart, 301 E. Broadway St., Cuero. Demerits: 28. Need to use lids and straws on employee drinks, need to discard expired medicine, improper handling of ready-to-eat foods. Four facility or equipment violations.

Taqueria Mi Familia, 209 S. Main St., Victoria. Demerits: 19. Need to use hand sink for hand washing only, eggs left out at room temperature more than four hours, improper handling of ready-to-eat foods, need to use approved date labeling system, inadequate hot water supply in front hand sink. One facility or equipment violation.

El Mexicano Grill No. 3, 702 W. Broadway St., Seadrift. Demerits: 18. Inadequate hand washing, need to use hand sink for hand washing only, improper handling of ready-to-eat foods. Two facility or equipment violations.

Dick's Food Store, 202 Broadway St., Seadrift. Demerits: 17. Inadequate hand washing, need to discard expired yogurt. Three facility or equipment violations.

Chunky Monkey, 621 Main St., Seadrift. Demerits: 11. Need to use hand sink for hand washing only. One facility or equipment violation.

Andy's Quick Stop, 312 W. Heaton St., Cuero. Demerits: 10 Improper handling of ready-to-eat foods. Two facility or equipment violations.

Green Lake Kitchen, 13050 state Highway 185, Port Lavaca; Main Course, 612 Red River, Victoria; Edna Elementary, 400 Apollo Drive, Edna. Demerits: 0.
