Editor, the Advocate:
I realize that abortion is a hot topic, and that most people have their own opinions and beliefs on the issue. I also understand that we live in an amazing country which allows us free speech, and for this, I am grateful.
I do have a problem with some forms of free speech when they are forced upon people. I use the term "forced" in reference to the man who stands on the street corners here in Victoria holding anti-abortion signs.
On our way to church this morning, we came to the stop light at Loop 463 and Navarro. I have a serious problem with my children (ages 15, 5 and 4) being forced to look out of the windows of our minivan and see a giant poster of a mutilated baby corpse.
My children should not be exposed to such a graphic five-foot photo that is so disturbing in nature. Why not have a picture of a cute smiling "Gerber" baby to encourage pro-life? I know that this is some kind of shock and scare tactic, but I find it offensive that my children are being visually assaulted. Why is this being allowed?
You know, I think teens need more sex education in regard to premarital sex, abstinence, STDs, and pregnancy. Would it be acceptable for me to stand on the corner of one of the busiest intersections in Victoria with a giant poster of female or male genitalia rotting with sexually transmitted diseases? Just because YOU feel passionately about a particular issue does not mean you have to shove it in our faces - more importantly, young innocent faces.

Freedom of Speech
April 8, 2011 at 10:54 p.m.Wayward
Unlike Tasin and the Woodsboro Inbreeding Church, my speech isn’t going to “hurt” anyone nor it is inciting violence. Second, I have yet to see the Inbreeding Church protest in the inner city. I bet that would shut them down for a long time.
April 7, 2011 at 10:39 p.m.Writein...I understand your concern, but realistically, because of the First Amendment, there's not anything you CAN do to stop anyone from displaying those disgusting posters or the blithering idiots at that so-called Baptist church who demonstrate at military funerals. If you take away their rights to do that, then your right to post on this forum is in jeopardy. About all you can do is to continue to state your views here and in letters to the editor. It wouldn't hurt to hurl a few insults in his face either. Perhaps the Baptists who protest at funerals can be drowned out with recordings of Kate Smith singing God Bless America and other patriotic music, but they ARE within their rights to demonstrate. It's sad that anyone would do such a thing at a funeral for a soldier, but they have the right to be stupid. You know, maybe my mother was right when she told me years ago to "just ignore them. They'll get tired eventually."
April 6, 2011 at 7:52 a.m.Waywardwind.
Then can you tell what can be done then? People, prolife or not, do not want the Tasin's of the world shove pictures in their children's faces.
April 6, 2011 at 6:17 a.m.Waywardwind.
You would be surprised about those who do find such pictures as a gratification.
April 3, 2011 at 6:50 p.m.Writein..."I want you to answer my question what is the difference between showing Child Porn and pictures of naked dead children???"
Okay, J, I'll answer your question, although I think you already know. Porn, whether adult or child, is designed to offer sexual titilation and gratification to the user. If you're interested, I can give you the names of some really good adult porn sites -- I don't know any kiddie porn sites and wouldn't go there if I did because I don't want to go to prison. Pictures of dead naked children are designed to disgust, to create a sense of horror in the viewer. I seriously doubt anybody -- with the possible exception of the one displaying the pictures -- gets any kind of sexual jollies from those pictures.
April 3, 2011 at 10:39 a.m.When this topic came up THIS time, I posted all my comments to a WORD document instead of this site, thus sparing you all my rants. =P
Because I wanted to gripe and say, "What? You are saying that if parents want to have control over the images their children are exposed to that they need to sign up for a newsletter that you promote?!?!"
and "I am not a hypocrite if I decide that I don't want my four year old to see mutilated corpses but then one day decide that my 14 or 15 year old may watch a horror movie with mom and dad..."
and "I see a difference between a 14 year old boy from Chicago and a newly fertilized egg inside a woman's body..." and "Any mother who lost her child would do the same as that mother whose 14 year old was murdered, and to put the two on the same level shows that you have less empathy for living humans - sons, daughters, mothers and fathers, and especially for the 14 year old murdered son who you compare to an embryo..."
I'm sure there's more, but that was just off the top of my head.
But, it does disturb me that people are conditioning themselves to give equal value to a newly fertilized egg and a 14 year old child... I see a difference. That mother chose life and others took that life from her against her will - against her will.

The way the world is going right now. I may " HAVE TO" take that undertaking . I am tired of the B.S. I want you to answer my question what is the difference between showing Child Porn and pictures of naked dead childern???
April 3, 2011 at 5:57 a.m.Uhhh, J, what did I wish for that I have to be careful? All I said was that if you were a legislator you could not pass a law; you'd have to have a majority vote for it and the executive sign it. I did wish you good luck.

WM PAUL TASIN just borke the first commandment. Thou shall not put other "gods" before me.
March 28, 2011 at 10:05 p.m.Mr. Tasin
In an earlier comment you wrote: Jesus died for our sins. Unborn babies die for our sins.
Please stand corrected. There is only One who died for the sins of man. That was Jesus Christ, the Son of God. The God/man.
I guess you could say unborn babies died because of our sins. If you had a typo, okay, but you can be sure no one can die for our sins and have any consequence other than Jesus the Messiah.
March 28, 2011 at 9:39 p.m.Waywardwind.
There used to be a saying “Be careful of what you wish for because it might happen.” Especially given the recent corruption and cronyism in public affairs.
March 28, 2011 at 9:27 p.m.PM Tasin.
Do not sit there and preach to me about Jesus Christ. The GOOD LORD did NOT have to lie to get his point across nor he ever offended anyone. You on the other hand, lied about American Cancer Society and women who have breast cancer. Showing children of this is sicken. I hope someone will put you in jail, Pm Tasin. That’s right I said. The thing isn’t about Abortion for me, it IS CLASSLESS, DISRESPECT, and the stupidity which you bring. YES YOU PAUL TASIN. One of these days I hope and pray a parent, grandparent, or a guardian will CHANGE YOUR TONE!!!!!!
March 28, 2011 at 9:26 p.m.Pffft - my 3 yr old daughter LOVED Texas Chainsaw Massacre!
However, I draw the line at letting her watch Dancing with the Stars.
March 28, 2011 at 8:58 p.m.I see the importance of the shock and awe factor in regard to issues ranging from civil rights to venerial disease to abortion. What I would like Mr. Tasin to explain is how he justifies exposing young children to these explicit images. I do not let my 4 year old watch movies like Texas Chainsaw Massacre so I am not sure about that correlation. It was nice of him to guide Rebecca to a link on the whereabouts of the offensive signs in the area. However, I know that most of us with a housefull of children don't have time to map out our traveling plans in Victoria according to where Mr. Tasin will be standing. Why should we have to? Is it really the Catholic Church's responsibility to put a leash on Mr. Tasin? Obviously many people are offended by the sign. Mr. Tasin, could you choose a less offensive manner in supporting your cause for our children's sake?
March 28, 2011 at 8:43 p.m.Jesus would condemn that behavior
March 28, 2011 at 3:43 p.m.Would Jesus stand on the side of the road holding a graphic sign?
March 28, 2011 at 3:37 p.m.Rebecca,
March 28, 2011 at 12:07 p.m.If you received the Pro-life Newsletter fro Life& Family Advocates you
would see where and when the next graphic sign display is to be held. Life & Family Advocates Newsletter P.O. Box 345, 77904

March 28, 2011 at 12:04 p.m.The Life Chain is held the First Sunday in October. And you are right we do not hold graphic signs only the ones that say Abortion Kills a Child and Women Regret Their Abortion, etc. Most pro-life people would feel uncofortable because of the criticism of some parents ---who when their children are teens, they will enjoy a good movie with-- them like Texas Chainsaw Murders.
Idea. How about we get a HUGE sign "Kids, Stay away from crazy old men with signs!" and stand next to this gentleman. I have no problem with his rambling in the Advocate, but when he shoves in my grandkids face I draw the line.
March 28, 2011 at 11:39 a.m.Tasin - Why do you violate your "life-chain" organizations rules? I have asked this before and you did not respond. It clearly says NO GRAPHICS!
March 28, 2011 at 10:20 a.m.Did they show those images to children against the parents' wishes? Did we just get a "they do it, so we can" argument from an adult as to why our children should be exposed to these images? "Turn the channel if you don't like what you see?" Well, tell us where the "show" is, so that we can avoid the road or the event. I think that's fair for parents of small children.
March 28, 2011 at 9:47 a.m.Until Americans see an abortion they are not going to reject abortion.
March 28, 2011 at 8:15 a.m.The media shows all kinds of bloody violence on TV and in the movies but they have never shown an abortion. Why not? Because the devil knows when people start realizing what their poor little mother and her child had to endure they would reject abortion.
Graphic Signs
Some people ask why we fight so hard against a woman's right to choose an abortion and why we hold up such awful graphic signs. We are not only fighting for babies, we are fighting for families and for our whole way of life.
Jesus died for our sins. Unborn babies die for our sins. Abortion strikes at the heart of the family. Few families ever survive after an abortion. Couples who have not married seldom ever continue the relationship after an abortion.
If you are a history buff you might remember the name "Emmett Till".
Till was a 14 year old Chicago boy who asked his mother if he couldn't go to stay the summer with his cousins in Money, Mississippi. He was her only child and she fearfully let him go: "Those people in Mississippi are different," She warned him.
As he and his cousins walked out of a small grocery store he said to the white women:
"By Baby!". Three days later the husband and some friends came to Emmett's uncle's house and got him. They beat him to a pulp, shot him in the head and tied a heavy fan with barbed wire around his neck and threw him into the Tallahassee River. Three days later some fisherman found his body and the funeral home shipped it back in a coffin to Chicago. His mother demanded to see the body and when they opened the coffin they saw this bloody face with a smashed nose and an eye knocked out. Mrs. Till called the newspapers and had them come take pictures of "What they done to my little boy!"
They had an open casket at the funeral and those pictures went round the world showing the true face of segregation. That was the start of the Civil Rights Movement in 1955.
When I was in the Navy, (an 18 year old kid) they were fond of showing what Venereal Diseases did to your private parts. Not very pretty but plenty effective as were the pictures of cancer of the lungs and car wrecks.
Probably the worst pictures we saw were from World War II. When General Ike saw Auschwitz he had his photographers come and take pictures because he said someday someone is going to deny that the holocaust ever happened. He took pictures of the bulldozers pushing in the bodies to mass graves, the ovens, the emaciated bodies and the world found out.
And the anti-slavery protesters had their signs. They were the pictures of the whipped backs, the shackled wrist and leg irons...it was those graphic pictures that people objected to, that made others realize the horror of slavery.
In 1942 the Hunting Industry was a multi million dollar business. That same year, "Bambi" hit the movie screen. In 1943 the Hunting Industry income was cut in half...no one wanted to be called a monster for shooting a Bambi.
Words have meaning and a picture is worth a 1000 words.

March 28, 2011 at 8:04 a.m.Sigh...Okay, J, get elected, then introduce the bill, then get it passed and then get it signed into law. Go for it. Good luck. Even though I'm not a Constitutional authority, I do know that it takes more than ONE person to make law. By the way, Supreme Court decisions are enforced.
March 28, 2011 at 7:50 a.m.Waywardwind.
I don't care.
Yes If I were State Rep, State Senator or someone in Congress, I would write a law considering pictures of chopped up babies as a form of pornography. Allow me to quote Andrew Jackson when the Supreme Court went against him, “ LET THEM ENFORCE IT !!!!” You are not the sole authority on what is constitutional or not. The problem is that you do not have children. I would also write a law showing a such picture to child considered to be assault on a child.
March 28, 2011 at 5:23 a.m.vet66 A long time catholic should respect and obey the wishes of a priest, and especially the bishop.
rossv I'm not sure why you directed me to the Gabriel website, other then to see member's names and phone numbers. I am not one who is complaining, so I had no intention of calling the parish priest or bishop. I just think if enough complain they may request him not to use the hideous signs in his demonstration against abortion.
March 27, 2011 at 8:48 p.m.You cannot stop ignorance. This man is just looking for attention. What a sad, lonely little man he must be.
March 27, 2011 at 6:36 p.m.Everyone here should stop giving him the attention he is seeking.
What makes you think his parish priest or the bishop talking to him would convince him to stop? I've seen him standing on the sidewalk outside a local Catholic church on Sunday, holding a sign.
March 27, 2011 at 6:17 p.m.If you really want a good shot at stopping Mr. Tasin of displaying his gross posters, you need to make a plea to the local Catholic church. If enough of you complain to the pastor of Holy Family Catholic church, and/or the local bishop, on how offensive this is to citizens, they may talk some since into him.
Then again, they may just join him.
March 27, 2011 at 5:52 p.m.Writein...If you were a lawmaker in this state or in DC, you might INTRODUCE a bill that would do what you propose. I don't think you'd have much luck passing such a bill. The pictures may be upsetting, objectionable and even sickening to some, but they certainly are NOT pornographic. They are, however, protected by the First Amendment as is the rest of the message. As I have said before, there is no Constitutional right to not being offended. You can ignor, you can leave, you can change the channel, but you cannot prohibit pollitical speech.
March 27, 2011 at 5:50 p.m.If I were a law maker, I would make a law considering signs and pictures of dead and chopped up babies as CHILD PORN !!!!!!
March 27, 2011 at 2:35 p.m.That guy is a loon! You would think that the graphic images this guy displays for all to see would be against the law! Is there nothing that can be done to stop this guy??
March 26, 2011 at 12:15 p.m.I am very strongly pro-life, but I think huge gory signs hurt the pro-life cause far more than they help it. They are terrifying to small chilldren and impossible to explain to them. Abortion is a hideous procedure, but no one should be forced to see pictures of it's results, regardless of their age.
Signs that say abortion causes breast cancer give many people the impression that all victims of breast cancer had abortions. This is very hurtful because the great majority of breast cancer victims have not had abortions and are not responsible for their illness. Breast cancer in men is rare, but it is equally serious and certainly none of them ever had an abortion.
I wish people would show more compassion and common sense in what they say and do in public, no matter what side of this issue they are on!
March 26, 2011 at 11:46 a.m.Robyn,
March 26, 2011 at 8:05 a.m.I agree. I have been fortunate enough not to have seen this gentleman, probably Mr. Tasin or one of his henchman, and his posters. It is true that the First Amendmant is really to protect this sort of dispaly jsut as it protects the church in Kansas and their displays of hate at funerals of veterans.
I am also lucky not to have to explain this to small children. Good luck with that.
