Best Dessert: Halepaska's Bakery

Tom Halepaska said he likes to think his bakery offers so many dessert options he can please any customer.

He certainly pleases many newspaper readers, who voted Halepaska's treats as the Best Dessert in the region.

"We have so many choices, but I like a good eclair myself," Halepaska, co-owner of Halepaska's Bakery, said. "We also sell a lot of cookies, cakes and pie - even individual slices of pie. It just depends on how your taste runs."

Ironically, the bakery, which was founded in 1953, serves baked goods with a fitting motto: Eat dessert first. Life is uncertain.

The bakery offers 24 cookie varieties, breakfast savories and other treats. All food, which includes soup, salads and sandwiches, is made from scratch and served fresh, Halepaska said.
