Best Deer Processor: Country Slaughter House

Being named the best meat processor in Victoria is just a good feeling for Ronnie Otto.

The owner of the Country Slaughter House has had the processing house since 1970.

"I get a lot of comments. Good comments," Otto said. "I get a lot of people out of Houston too."

The secret is in how fast his staff turns around the processing, he said.

The slaughter house's busiest time is deer season, but during the rest of the year they custom process other animals, he said.

That custom processing and the quick turn around may be what has earned the slaughter house the No. 1 spot, he said.

"It feels pretty good," he said.
