  • Terrance Woods vs. Sergey KovalevWhen: Friday

    Where: Indio, Calif.

    What: 8-round light heavyweight bout

    TV: TeleFutura (some bouts)

Bay City boxer Terrance Woods had another week to train for his light heavyweight fight against Sergey Kovalev.

Woods and Kovalev are scheduled to face off Friday in an eight-round light heavyweight bout at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, Calif.

The fighters were originally scheduled to meet last week in Las Vegas.

But the fight was canceled when Kovalev failed a hepatitis test.

Kovalev passed a second test, but the Nevada boxing commission demanded another test, which takes four days to get the results.

As a result, Woods, trainer and manager Mike Zavala, and corner man Lupe Longoria returned to Bay City.

The fight was moved to California where Kovalev already has a license.

Woods, 32, has a record of 8-1 that includes six knockouts.

Woods' last fight was Aug. 28 when he knocked out Terence Anderson in the first round of their scheduled four-round fight in Galveston.

Friday's bout will be Woods' first scheduled for eight rounds.

Kovalev has a 16-0 record. The Russian has won 14 of his fights by knockout.
