Johnathan Davila is serving in Afghanistan. His mother, Dana Davila, sent water balloons as a means to take a break from the war.

Dana Davila knows down times are few and far between during war, but when her son has a spare moment, she wants him to enjoy himself, even in Afghanistan.

"He's still a kid at heart," Davila said of her son, 20-year-old Spc. 4 Johnathan Davila, an Army combat engineer.

Earlier this year, Davila sent her son some water balloons and, apparently, they were a hit. Now she's collecting more to send to as many soldiers as possible in Afghanistan.

A drop box is at Faith Family Church, 2002 Mockingbird Lane, and donations of balloons will be taken on Saturday and May 20 at ceremonies related to Warrior's Weekend at the church.

"We encourage people to attach a note or letter to the package of balloons," Davila said. "Johnathan's first sergeant said he would see that the soldiers who don't get much mail will be the first to get those."

Donations will be accepted through May 23 at the church.
