Summer is almost here and it is time to start making plans to keep your children busy.

KIDS COLLEGE
The recommended grade levels listed are intended as a guide to assist parents in selecting the appropriate courses. The grade level can be determined if the child is entering or exiting that grade.
Complete the registration and consent form at www.victoriacollege.edu/kidscollege. A parent or guardian signature is required. Submit forms and payment to the Victoria College Continuing Education Center, Room 207 (faces Ben Jordan Street) or mail to Victoria College, Continuing Education, 2200 E. Withdrawal must be completed at least two business days before the course begins. No refunds are issued after course begins. If special accommodations are needed, please call 361-582-2528 at least one week prior to beginning of the course.
Continuing Education Center hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m Monday through Friday. Beginning June 6, Summer office hours are 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and closed on Friday.

Digital Photography - Express Yourself
Registration fee: $95

You've got a camera, but do you want to know how to improve your techniques and produce impressive images consistently? This camp will show you how to shoot the perfect photo using creative composition, use different types of light and take the shot when the moment is right. Students will take both indoor and outdoor photos and return to the classroom for a presentation and critique. Participants should bring their own camera and cables to the class and have working knowledge of their camera.
Colored Pencil Art
Registration fee: - $95

Express your creative side! Learn to draw, highlight, and shade using colored pencils. Completed artwork can be sprayed with a workable fixative to hold color and then framed. Supplies needed: click eraser and pencil sharpener.
CSI for Kids (Grades 4-8 only)
June 13-16, 1 to 4 p.m.at the CEC
Registration fee: $95
Officer Lisa Seger with the Victoria Police Department Crime Scene Unit will lead the students in solving an imaginary crime from clues left at the scene. They will learn to recognize what to look for at a crime scene, why it is necessary to collect evidence and how to preserve it. They will play the role of a crime scene technician to interpret evidence that could be used to prosecute an offender in court. Some of the techniques that they will perform include: fingerprinting, photographs, and securing the scene. Students will compile evidence they have collected and prepare it as if they were presenting it to a courtroom.
Guitar Basics

Grossology.the science of really gross things. Squeamish, shrieks and squeals are the order of the day as we engage in delightfully repulsive projects that help us learn the science behind all the gross but cool workings of the human body and other gross things.
Rocket to the Stars
July 11-14, 1 to 5 p.m.at the CEC.
Registration fee: $95
Go beyond the ordinary to explore the solar system and journey into the night sky. Buckle up for an exciting hands-on adventure that focuses on the stars, planets, alien goo, solar power and building rockets that launch.
Kids College - Grades 6-9
Did you cut yourself? Basic First Aid
June 13-16, 9 a.m. to noonat the CEC.
Registration fee: $95
Learn the basics of First Aid with this fun, informative class. You'll learn the important details on not only how to bandage cuts, but how to recognize a true medical emergency. You will also learn how to manage minor medical injuries, such as burns, sprains and fractures. You will learn what goes in a First Aid kit and so much more. All supplies will be provided.
Xpress Yourself - Photo Editing and Creative Imaging
June 13-16, 1 to 5 p.m. at the CEC.
Registration fee: $95
You've got the camera. You've taken the pictures. What now? Learn how to create photo projects using different multimedia applications. You'll take some new photos too. So, have a working knowledge of your camera and bring your USB cord to class. You will take your completed multimedia project home on DVD.

All Skills Basketball - Grades 3-8
June 13-17, 8 to 10 a.m. at the Sports Center.
Registration fee: $50
Coach Jona Anderson will focus on the individual fundamental skills necessary to be successful in basketball in this boys and girls camp. Shooting, passing, ball handling and defensive skills will be highlighted. Team skills will also be emphasized.
Competition Volleyball - Grades 5-7
June 20-24, 9 a.m. to noon at the Sports Center.
Registration fee: $60
Coach Josh Moore will emphasize all fundamental skills necessary to be successful in the game of volleyball. Team skills will also be emphasized. This camp is for inexperienced players.
Competition Volleyball - Grades 7-9
June 20-24, 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Sports Center.
Registration fee: $60
This camp is for the more experienced players who have already been exposed and can execute the basic volleyball skills. Individual skills will be stressed in a more competitive environment. Team skills will also be emphasized.
All Sports Camp - Grades 1-3
Aug. 1-5, 1 to 3 p.m.at the Sports Center.
Registration fee: $40
Coach Josh Moore will direct this camp where each student will be exposed to many sports and activities. UHV Soccer Camp
Week 1, June 6-10 at Bill Witt Soccer Complex padre Soccer Club in Corpus Christi; Week 2, June 20-24 andWeek 3 -July 18-22, VYSO Soccer complex. For boys and girls ages 4-17 ; 9 a.m. to noon and 5:30-8:30 p.m., $115 for one session or $165 for both. Team discounts are available. All campers receive a T-shirt and soccer ball. Camp director is Adrian Rigby, UHV headmen's and women's soccer coach.

Texas Teens Read

Going Global, Staying Connected is the theme for Texas Teens Read, a free program offering many things for teens sixth-12th grade to do this summer. Registration begins June 1. Teens will receive a library buck for every hour of reading to redeem for prizes. Programs will feature mail art, Japanese crafts, anime and bento boxes, game of "Minute to Win It," Harry Potter party, Indian crafts and gaming.

Minute to Win It
June 27,2 p.m.
Form teams and compete for prizes in this version of the popular TV show. The game will consist of two rounds. The first round will be a team competition. The winning team will advance to the second round and break up into single players to compete for the title of "Minute to Win It Champion." Prizes will be awarded to the winning team and to the champion. All games will be selected from the Minute to Win It website. For teens in sixth to 12th grade.
Harry Potter Day

Celebrate the release of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part Two" with crafts and contests. Make your own magic wand, learn how to concoct Harry Potter-themed snacks, compete for the best costume and test your knowledge in the Harry Potter trivia contest. For teens in sixth to 12th grade.
Teen Gaming

T3 will showcase three unique musical productions: Disney's Aladdin Kids, "Disney's Cinderella Kids" and "The Music man Jr." on June 18 in performances at the Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts.

Kids Summer Art Camp

Studying the basic elements in art and experiment in a variety of art mediums including pencil, charcoal, watercolor paints, pastels and more. Children will learn how to put the seven elements of design together to create an entire piece of artwork.
June 20-24, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a one hour lunch break from noon to 1 p.m.

The GBRA/TPWD 16th annual Kids Fishing Tournament
Coleto Creek Reservoir

The event is open to any child age 2 to 16.
No registration fee, but regular day-use admission of $8 per vehicle will be charged. All children participants must register before fishing the tourney.
Registration will be taken until 8 a.m. the day of the event.
Trophies will be awarded in four different age groups for top three heaviest stringers; and biggest fish, biggest bass, biggest catfish and biggest crappie.
Food and drink will be furnished on a limited basis.

Go Skateboarding Day
June 21, noon-8 p.m. Celebrate at the Victoria skatepark (sports complex) with the community. Free and open to the public. It's Victoria's first annual celebration of the Internationally recognized Go Skateboarding Day. Try out long boards, slalom boards, and short boards for free to see which is your skating style. Local skate shop Art Factory, and the Texas Outlaws skate team will be sponsoring this free event. Children must be accompanied by an adult for free skateboarding lessons.

Canoe Trail Goliad Summer Flotilla
June 4 starting at 9 a.m. An organized group paddling event on the Goliad Paddling Trail supported by Canoe Trail Goliad, the San Antonio River Authority, and TPWD-Goliad State Park. Families with children of all ages are encouraged to participate. Must provide own canoe or kayak for the event. Paddlers will start at the U.S. Highway 59 Landing on the San Antonio River and paddle six miles downstream to the Goliad State Park. This river section is an easy paddle with no rapids but lots of wildlife, birds, and natural scenery.
