Citizens Medical Center receives recognition for stroke care
Citizens Medical Center received the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association's Get With The Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award in early May.
The award recognizes Citizens' commitment and successful implementation in care for its stroke patients, according to the achievement's guidelines.
To receive the award, Citizens achieved 85 percent or higher adherence to the guidelines' indicators for two or more consecutive 12-month intervals and achieved 75 percent or higher compliance with six of 10 of the stroke quality measures.
These measures include aggressive use of medications, which are aimed at reducing death and disability, and improving the lives of stroke patients.
"With a stroke, time lost is brain lost, and the (award) demonstrates Citizens Medical Center's commitment to being one of the top hospitals in the country for providing aggressive, proven stroke care," said Katrin McDonough, Citizens stroke coordinator. "We will continue with our focus on providing care that has been shown in the scientific literature to quickly and efficiently treat stroke patients with evidence-based protocols."
Stroke is one of the leading causes of death and serious, long-term disability in the U.S., according to the heart and stroke association.
