Bobbye Denney, a fourth-grade teacher at Ella Schorlemmer Elementary School, has been re-elected to a two-year term as district three director for the Texas Classroom Teachers Association.
Her new term will begin June 1, 2011.
Elections were in February at the association's annual convention in Austin.
Denney was re-elected by convention delegates from district three - the area near the Gulf Coast she will represent on the association's Directors' Council. As a council member, Denney helps set policy for the statewide association and assists leaders of local affiliates in her 11-county area.
Denney is a longtime association member and previously served in this position on the Directors' Council. She has also served at the local level as president of the Victoria Classroom Teachers Association.
The 2011-12 association's council also will include Ruby Tanguma, of Bay City, serving as a district three director.
Founded in 1927, the Texas Classroom Teachers Association is an independent, nonunion organization serving more than 50,000 members across the state.
Based in Austin, it is the only statewide teachers association that limits active-level membership to those directly involved in classroom teaching or teaching support.
