May 24, 2011 at 12:24 a.m.

The Rev. John Peters, pastor, left, and the Rev. Tommy Chen, associate pastor, display the 55-inch Sony flat-screen television that will be auctioned off at the 129th annual Sacred Heart Church Picnic on Sunday. The auction will include many other items including cattle and an Asian cooking demonstration at your home by Chen.

The 129th annual Sacred Heart Parish spring picnic will be Sunday at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 321 U.S. Highway 77 S. in Hallettsville.

The event features a dinner of country fried chicken, stew and homemade cornbread dressing with all the trimmings.

Meals are $7.50 for adults and $4 for children and will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the hall and from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for drive-through plates to go.

Advance tickets are available for the to-go plates at the Sacred Heart rectory, Hoffer's Drive-In, and Morton's Drive-In.

The day's activities include a 1 p.m. auction featuring antiques, cattle, handmade quilts, plants, arts and crafts, dolls and more.

One highlight of the auction is "Cooking Asian with Father Tommy," offered by associate pastor the Rev. Tommy Chen. The high bidder will get a lesson in Asian cooking as well as a dinner for up to 12 cooked by Chen.

Other activities include children's rides and games, bingo, a cake walk, country store, game booth and religious articles booth.

There will also be a washer tournament at 5 p.m and a "pig plop."

And, of course, there will be music.

Music on the main pavilion will feature the J&S Playboys from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A free dance on the polka pavilion will include the Red Ravens and the Jodie Mikula Orchestra from 1 to 9 p.m.
