This type of project and possible facility is long overdue. This community needs a full service hotel resort/convention center combination. There is no way to tell how much revenue the city has lost by not having the venue to host conferences and conventions. Not only does the entire region need more hotel space, Victoria needs a convention center! My only hope is that the new convention center is a brand that will build the very best, and not cut corners.
Brackenridge was built for the area by Lavaca Navidad River Authority. Why not lobby for GBRA to do the same for Victora County?
Mr. McCaslin,We have the plants (Invista,Carbide, ect) we have the history, we have cowboys and women, we have the medical facilities, we have VC and UHV, and we have oil and gas....BUT, Victoria needs a venue that will facilitate events that would draw visitors....exhibits and trade shows and of course we desperately need a place to hold the entertainment...Rodeos,Stock Show,Concerts,Festivals,Car Shows and Races,Airshows, Ect....sure we have all these things here now, but I think it's time to build a place that will hold the majority of these events that people want to come to....Take a look at what our neighbors built in Edna, BrackenRidge Recreation Complex, why can't Victoria have something like this?If we invite people to Victoria we need to have something to show them when they get firstname.lastname@example.org
As a business owner in Petrochemicals here in Victoria, I think it would be very beneficial for Victoria to have a much larger center. ClearWell Chemicals is a new start up (2yrs) here in Victoria and we are looking at growing and building a blend plant in Victoria. If Victoria had a large center for trade shows and meeting it would be a great compliment to the Eagleford shale business that is going on and With all the companies that have come to the region. I for one would love to have outside investors come in and look at Victoria and the local business's for growth opportunity. I invite Mr. McCaslin to come and visit with us and see what he and Victoria may have to offer.
