Victoria Transit is on the move - literally.
The offices and fleet will relocate to a new operations depot by about July 1, said operations manager Les Garcia.
"The lease is signed, but we've got a lot of work to do," Garcia said.
Victoria Transit will move from Town Plaza Mall, 1502 E. Airline Road, to its new location, 4902 John Stockbauer Drive.
The transit has to move because Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, adjacent to Town Plaza Mall, has purchased that property for expansion.
Garcia said the move to the corner of John Stockbauer Drive and Salem Road has also meant some route changes for the transit service.
"We've spent hours and hours working on these service routes," he said. "We are still on 30-minute pickup rates. Our six routes are still being maintained."
Garcia said that, of the 125 stops in the transit system's service route, only one had to be deleted and four new ones were added.
The stop proposed to be deleted is at Crestwood Street and Cameron Street on the Blue North Route.
The transit service will continue with its fixed and flexible routes as well as the rural transit service and para-transit offerings. There are 39 vehicles in the fleet maintained in Victoria.
Garcia said he hopes to begin moving June 27, but much work needs to be done at the new site, including building renovations, parking lot work and lighting.
"Hopefully, the dust will settle by July 1," he said.
