Rec Room: No charge to participate in city Christmas parade
By Shane Simon
What is the cost to enter the Christmas Lighted Parade?
This is a question we get asked quite often from interested parties wanting to sign up for a spot in our Christmas Lighted Parade.
There is no charge for entering this parade. In the spirit of the season, the Parks and Recreation Department feels like this special event wouldn't be the same if we charged a fee.
We enjoy the fact that this is Victoria's largest parade and, in my opinion, the most beautiful.
Now that we are moving back downtown, with all the renovations along the streets and décor that makes DeLeon Plaza delightful, we are expecting large crowds for this year's parade. We are taking entries for this wonderful event. If you or someone you know are interested in entering as an individual, business or club, please fill out the registration forms found at the parks office or online at playvictoriatexas.com and secure a spot today. Deadline for entries is Friday, Nov. 18.
What happened to the Tunes@Noon events going on downtown?
Because of the Parks and Recreation staff's involvement in Bootfest and the Haunted Hayride, we were unable to host our Tunes@Noon as scheduled.
Because of the holidays in November and December and the chance of cold weather in January and February, we will host our next Tunes@Noon the final Friday in March.
We have been in contact with several interested bands and individual entertainers who we know you will enjoy this spring.
We will be sure to get the word out early in the year so you can mark your calendars for all the Tunes@Noon dates for 2012.
Where exactly will the new park be located?
The new park, which we are calling Lone Tree Creek Park, is located on Airline Road between Tangerine and Tanglewood subdivisions and across Airline Road from Deerchase subdivision.
