Unidentified noise wakes some in Crossroads

Daylight saving time wasn't the only thing throwing off Crossroads residents' sleep patterns.

A loud noise woke some people in southeastern Victoria in Monday's wee morning hours.

Marvin Williamson said he was asleep inside his home on Village Green when the intermittent noise woke him about 2 a.m. It continued for about 45 minutes.

"It sounded like a very, very large vapor escape," he said. "It wasn't very close to us, but it was still very loud."

Williamson said he called the Victoria Police Department, where a representative told him it was likely a relief valve.

"I spent 30 years working at a chemical plant, and that's exactly what it sounded like," he said. "I was a little concerned about whether it was anything toxic or flammable."

Representatives with the Victoria Fire Department, Victoria County Sheriff's Office and Victoria Police Department said they did not investigate the noise.
