Victoria native Matt Prokop filmed Disney Channel Original Movie "Geek Charming" with girlfriend Sarah Hyland. He said it was cold outside during the shoot in Vancouver, Canada. Matt Prokop can make a cold, Canadian day appear to be as warm as a Los Angeles spring.

The Victoria native said creating illusions comes with the acting territory.

"The number one thing you have to do is learn how to fake it," he said.

Prokop said at times it was so cold on the "Geek Charming" movie set, he saw breath clouds when he talked.

The 21-year-old nearly frozen actor said he had to suck on ice cubes in between takes to literally take his breath away.

Crossroads supporters and movie lovers alike will get to see Prokop and his real life girlfriend, Sarah Hyland, on screen during their Disney Channel Original Movie premiere Friday evening.

Prokop plays self-professed film geek, Josh Rosen, who convinces pink princess, Dylan Shoenfield, to be a part of a documentary about high school popularity. She reluctantly agrees. After being dumped by her boyfriend, the socialite plummets.

The two lead characters stand to benefit from each other. Josh wants to win a film festival award, while Dylan seeks the coveted crown as the fall formal queen. While working together, they both learn about each other. But, one question remains: will they find their happily-ever-after?

Prokop said that he cried three different times watching the movie, because it was so intense and real for him. He also said there are some teachable moments.

"You don't have to put on this fake persona to get people to like you," he said.

With seven weeks of intense filming, last minute production changes, and bitterly cold weather, Prokop said having Hyland by his side really helped.

"We constantly had a best friend," he said.

The young Hollywood couple splashed their own flavor into their characters; however, their characters' personalities are a little more extreme than theirs.

Prokop, who appeared in Disney's "High School Musical 3" said Hyland is not really a diva, and he isn't that shy.

Hyland stars in the TV hit "Modern Family."

Disney executives said Prokop was the perfect choice to play Josh because he's the guy the audience would root for - appealing, funny, with a great smile and a big heart.

"I knew this role had his (Prokop's) name all over it," said Judy Taylor, senior vice president casting and talent relations.

Prokop's talent may take him around the world, but his heart is in Victoria. When he returns to his hometown, his appetite is at Hungry Jack's and Uncle Mutt's.

Prokop has 33,000 followers on Twitter.

He said social media is an effective way to communicate with fans, it can also help or hurt with perception.

The Victoria native also has other work in progress. He will be in "Struck by Lightning," written by "Glee" star Chris Colfer, and "April Apocalypse." movies in 2012.

Since a young age, Prokop knew his calling. "Acting is the only thing I'd be doing for the rest of my life."
